93.9 WABY hammers a dent in the Albany radio ratings. The TJ show featured weekday mornings on WABY is starting to take on some big competition and give them a run for their money. On November 16, 2023, 9:39 PM, 93.9 WABY FM 90s and 2000s rock hit the air wavein Albany.  In as little as 7 months WABY has served up the capital region with a much needed fix of hard rock and is being recognized for it.  Jennifer Rivers of Ballston spa says “I dIscovered WABY in December and cancelled my Sirius subscription”.

Almost 15 years ago there was three competing hard rock radio stations in Albany. It was over saturated and eventually the hard rock format became a ghost of the past. LOUD MEDIA started testing these formats in other markets such as Tennessee and Wyoming. They focused on 90s and 2000s Rock with high success rates. Eventually they noticed that Albany N.Y needed to be served . Listeners came out of the wood work and all started screaming WABY BABY!

Ralph Renna, host of the local music show Capital Underground and full time night host said “I gave up the dream of being a radio DJ along time ago. I love hard rock and I love metal that’s my thing. that’s where I cut my teeth and they’re just  no stations playing any music like this”. Renna adds “ But when I heard WABY, I was interested again and when approached with opportunities, I figured let’s give it one more shot and I’m really glad that I did”

Ralph Renna who has been linked to rock and metal radio in  Albany for over 35 years. Renna will be moving into the 3 PM to 7 PM time slot Monday June 3.  Renna will also host a 2 hour metal show named High-Voltage on Sunday nights 9:00pm.

”I have been blessed and fortunate enough to be given this opportunity and I’m gonna give it my best.  I look forward to these new adventures and bringing in more staff”. Renna continues “939waby.com is growing with more show photos, plus we are now recruiting writers and a sales team”.
